More than 100 Calgary families have already applied to The BUSY School Calgary, the city’s new alternative high school, ahead of its opening on August 31, 2026. With places in the first intake limited, the school is encouraging families to tour the campus and make enrolment enquiries as soon as possible.
The downtown site, at 1040 7th Avenue SW, sits on Calgary’s main transit and pedestrian corridor, with direct access to the C-Train (LRT) making the daily commute straightforward for students across the city.
The BUSY School exists for young people who haven’t found their fit in mainstream education. Its first Canadian campus joins 13 schools across Australia, New Zealand and Wales, where the not-for-profit has helped thousands of previously disengaged students finish their education and move into work or further study.
“We chose Calgary for our first Canadian campus because the need is clear,” said The BUSY Group global Managing Director, Paul Miles. “Many young people don’t find their fit in mainstream education, and we exist to give them a fresh start and a practical pathway to the future.”
Approved in Alberta, the school delivers the curriculum students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 need to work toward the Alberta High School Diploma. The school is tuition-free, with smaller classes, flexible learning, individual learning plans and wraparound well-being support, alongside vocational training and practical pathways into further study, training or employment. The goal is simple: every student graduates and moves on to work or further study.
Early demand is already shaping the first intake. “More than half the students starting in the fall are joining us for Grade 10, which tells us there’s real appetite for a different kind of high school in this city,” Mr. Miles said.
